It all begins with an idea.
One random day in September 2022 I launched a business.
Let me back up… My love for photography runs deep. As a young child, my grandmother and father loved to take photos, many memories are of them both with a camera or a camcorder in hand. I was my father’s only child and my grandmother’s favorite grandchild, so therefore, I was always in front of their cameras (that has since changed over the years, I prefer to be behind one instead of in front.) As the years passed, I picked up my disposable and digital cameras, taking pictures of vacations with my dad, my friends, and eventually many selfies. Into my young adult years, I began to be that friend… you know the one who always has the camera ready to capture the moment no matter how bad or crazy it was; because I knew memories were important and that one day we would all want to look back at our youth and see all the fun we had. Now, as a mother that idea is exponentially more important to me - creating and capturing memories is a pillar in the foundation of motherhood.
After years of daydreaming about the idea of starting a photography business and years of taking photos of family & friends for free, I was given the push I desperately needed. I was on maternity leave in the summer of 2022 when I got the call that so many people in corporate America dread…. I was being laid off. I had until the spring of 2023 but after that my 15 year career was ending. I was clueless for a while, unsure what would be my next move. Then one day in September a business name came to me: Three of a Kind and my business was born. I opened an Instagram account under this new name and the rest is history.
Why did I name my business Three of a Kind?
I have three little girls that are not only my little queens, but they are the whole reason I had the bravery to launch a business. I wanted to show them to follow their dreams, to not be afraid of failure, and that they are my inspiration. These little girls are three of a kind, with their dark hair and dark eyes, looking just like me. And so naming my business was easy, I wanted to honor the reason I am doing what I love.
